PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

by Dorothy Evans

White smoke could be seen rising from the chimney of the Women's Club.   We have a new president!!   A super big Thank You to Bob Phelan for taking over the reins next year.   We all wish Bob success and in typical Clutch Buster fashion, we will do everything we can to assist him.   Thank you also to all those who volunteered for positions on the Board and as committee chairs.   Best wishes for a great 2006.

Considering November was a short month dance-wise, we still had a packed schedule.   Joe and Bonnie's chili night hit the spot on that chilly night.

We have a lot of great cooks in our club and they definitely showed off their talents.   Thanks to everyone who helped set up and a special thanks to Joe and Bonnie for organizing the evening.

Our hoedown wasn't quite as successful as we hoped, but we still had a good showing and turned a profit.   For that we should be happy and pat ourselves on the back.   A lot of people put in a tremendous amount of work, but I would like to give special mention to three people.   Tracy and Lisa showed up early in the day to hang the tarps that transformed the drab patio into a cozy, warm dining area.   They also set up a lounging area on the other side of the hall, complete with a lamp, and Lisa designed several of the decorations.   Also deserving special credit is Diana who spent the entire evening in the kitchen arranging food and cleaning up.   Thanks to so many others too - Tom left his sick bed to help set up and clean up; John E. climbed a ladder over and over again to hang crepe paper garlands around the entire hall; Erna and Kathy made special trips to the church to decide on decorations; Avis, John W, Lois and Don L. froze as they sat by the door collecting money and selling tickets; and the list goes on and on.   Our success was due to a total club effort.

Coming up on the 15th is our Christmas party, hosted by Tom and Sue.

They've done a lot of preparation and we're all looking forward to a fun time.   Thank you, Tom and Sue.   They're a great addition to our club.

Let's all get there a little early that night to help them set up.

My term as president is coming to a close.   It's been satisfying work and a labor of love.   This club hasn't lasted 49 years out of luck.   Good friends working on a common goal is what makes it successful.   We may not always agree on what road to follow, but the good of the club is always

our number one priority.    My appreciation to you all.

Yellow Rocks,

Dorothy

BONNIE and JOE ZEHRUNG

by Dorothy Evans

For the second time in two months, two of our club's long-time members have announced they will be leaving the area.   What a surprise to learn that Bonnie and Joe will be moving to Utah around April to be near family.

We're all happy for them, but we're also sad to see them leave.

Bonnie and Joe are both past presidents of the club, holding other offices and contributing to numerous parties as well.   We have been charmed by Bonnie's poems which she recited at anniversary parties and many of us are lucky enough to have one of her club recipe books which she gifted to members at the end of her presidency.

Personally, Bonnie and Joe are special to me.   When I was going through the diagnosis for MS, and I was scared thinking only the worst, every few days Bonnie would email me cheerful notes to lift my spirits.   She is a sweet, caring lady and will always be dear to my heart.   Joe and I share an interest in rocks.   He presented me with a beautiful chrysanthemum rock on behalf of the club which I display in my cabinet, and he personally gave me a magnificent piece of obsidian which I keep on my desk at work.

And anyone who has not had the opportunity to see them waltz has missed a beautiful sight.   I always got so much pleasure watching them dance at our anniversary parties.

Utah 's gain is our loss.   We wish them both good health and happiness once they embark.   Until then, we can enjoy their company as we have these many years.

CHRISTMAS PARTY

By Tom Sandow

You are cordially invited to The Clutch Busters' Annual Christmas Party on Thursday, December 15th, at the Mt. Diablo Women's Club, 1700 Farm Bureau Rd. , Concord . It'll be a fun-packed night with all of the club favorites including Bob Kratz's final Christmas skit, The Twelve Days of Christmas, Christmas chimes and, of course, great dancing to Gary Kendall! We'll also have a Christmas trivia contest with valuable prizes for the winners. The fun starts at 7:30 - don't miss it!

Naturally, we'll have great food too. In that regard we could use a few more finger-food items. If you can help, there will be a sign-up sheet at the club workshop on Dec. 8th or you can call Sue Sandow at 676-3256.

Thanks to everyone who has, or will, sign-up... it wouldn't be great party without your help.

Speaking of food, The Clutch Busters are again stepping up to share with those less fortunate. We will be collecting food items at the party to donate to The Food Bank of Contra Costa & Solano. As an aid in considering your donation the Food Bank offers these suggestions:

Please consider this list when purchasing food to be donated to the Food Bank. Sizes for household use are most needed: Iron rich cereal (45% or more daily value); Canned fruit (in juice); Dry beans (any type); Canned vegetables; Enriched pasta and rice; Powdered milk; Beef stew or other canned, ready-to-eat meals; Peanut butter (plastic container); Canned meat, poultry and fish.

If you wish to make a monetary donation there will be a donation box at the party. Please make checks payable to The Food Bank Of Contra Costa and Solano'. Thanks for sharing your Christmas warmth with those less fortunate.

CH, CH, CH, CHANGES

by Tom Sandow

It is with mixed feelings that I assume responsibility for The Record.

What was to have been a temporary, three-month assignment while Bob and Chris traveled around the country has become a 'permanent' assignment because they are moving to Oregon . Bob and Chris were there that first beginner night when Sue and I walked in the door and they were our 'angels' a few weeks later at a potluck when they 'introduced' us to the club. You could say that Sue and Bob had a real 'falling-in' together (remember the sky diving photos?). So I take no pleasure in saying good-bye to friends we wanted to know better.

As for The Record, there will be changes. It may look a bit different due to different software; different skill-sets; and, certainly, in my case, different (as in 'lack of') talent. Let me know what you like, what you don't like, and what you think could be done better. Just remember, the standard has been set pretty high. I blame Bob for that.

NCSDA REPORT

by Tracy and Lisa Woodard

The NCSDA meeting was called to order on Sunday, November 20 at 1:00 PM.

It began with the announcement that the Skirts and Flirts of San Leandro have resigned from NCSDA, and are planning to merge with Castro Valley Rebels. Also, the Buzz Steppers of Napa have folded.

Upcoming events and activities that were reported on:

The NCSDA Anniversary Dance will be held January 8, from 2 to 5 PM, at the Clock Tower in Benicia . This dance will feature the top ten callers --- that we recently voted on. A Buffet Dinner will follow the dance. Dinner reservations should be made in advance by completing a registration form and submitting a payment of $15.00 per person. Flyers/ registration forms are available either on-line at   www.NCSDA.com or a few will be available at our Thursday night workshop. (Look for them on the table.)

Meet Us at the Station! --- The 2006 Golden State Roundup is scheduled for May 26,27,and 28th at the San Ramon Marriott Hotel. Room reservations are available on-line at www.Marriott.com for a special event rate of $69.00/ night (if reserved before May 11th.... after this date you would pay regular room rates.) Pre-registration for both the dance event and your room accommodations is strongly encouraged. Remember when completing your dance registration to indicate your dance level preference, as this will help the organizers in scheduling   activities and space. Also, note that this year, you have the option of purchasing a two-day ribbon for Saturday and Sunday events for only $30.00. Level specific schedules and registration forms are available on-line at www.NCSDA.com and a few registration forms will be available at our Thursday night workshop. (Look for them on the

table.)

An Oakland A's ballgame promotion is being organized as a NCSDA outing.

Watch for further details in January.

It was also reported that we would see more promotion of round dances in the coming year.

For those who like to be in the know ----

The Theme for the 2007 Golden State Round up will be Jokers are Wild as it will be the 54th Roundup and in a card deck the Jokers are the 53rd and 54th cards. Pretty clever!

Other general NCSDA business reports included the following:

Once again, we have been asked to sell tickets for the drawing to be held at the California State Square Dance Convention that will be held in April 2006. Each club in the NCSDA has been given a packet of five books of tickets (each book contains 10 tickets). The tickets are $1.00 each and our club receives a commission on the sale of tickets if we sell at least 50 tickets. First Prize is a Hawaiian Holiday, Second Prize is a four-day cruise for two or a $750 travel gift certificate, and Third Prize is Registration and Lodging at the Convention or $300 cash. You can purchase your tickets from Lisa or Tracy Woodard --- if each club member buys at least one ticket it will cover our obligation and who knows one of us may even win that trip to Hawaii !

The NCSDA Historian position has been filled by Elaine Corral. She will be bring the chronicles of the Association up to date, since the last complete postings were in 1998. She hopes to have a display available at the 2006 Round-up.

Seven certificates were issued for golden dancers. Two of these certificates honored local Martinez Swingers --- Dolph Deggner and Sandy Branchcomb.

Buckskin. Buckskin, who has the Buckskin? Well it seems that the Skirts and Flirts of San Leandro have it and since they are leaving NCSDA to merge with the Castro Valley Rebels ---- some club needs to steal it by Dec 31st. They meet Wednesday nights from 8:00 to 10:00. At the Covallis

Schoo1 at 14790 Covallis Street . Any takers?

Mercifully the meeting was concluded at 2:20 PM. The next NCSDA meeting is scheduled for February 26,2006 at 1:00 PM and will be held at the Contra Costa Water District.

As always, there are lots of square dance activities happening locally, across the state and nationally. Here are some highlights of what was provided in our NCSDA Delegate packet. If anything strikes your fancy ---look for flyers on the table at our Thursday night workshops or contact Tracy or Lisa for details (as sometimes we only get one flyer).

by Diana Lorentzen

A big Thank You to all of you for bringing such wonderful dishes of food for our Hoedown. We received a lot of complements on what a wonderful spread we had. I also want to thank those who helped me set up and who worked in the kitchen and who helped with the clean up.

NEWS FROM THE ALLEY

by Avis Walker

Our November bowling started out on the very first day of the month with the celebration of Tom Lococo's 85th birthday. It was also NO TAP Tuesday.

Avis Walker took high score in the first game with a 225 followed by Wally Everette with a 218 and Tom Lococo with a 205. Tom proved that there was a lot of zing left in that 85 year old swing when he rolled high game of the day for a win in the second game with a 243.   Don Snodgrass followed him with a 218.In the third game John Walker picked up a 5-10 split but was beat out by Rachel Ireland with a 207. Tom Lococo took honors of the day with high series of a whopping 618. When NO TAP results were given the following Tuesday our women had taken all places with Wally Everette winning women's 1st place and $6.00, Avis Walker came in 2nd for $5.00, and Rachel Ireland came in 3rd for $3.00 while Don Snodgrass won men's 1st place and $7.00. On that Tues., Nov. 11th we celebrated Janet Lococo and Wally Everette's birthdays. Wally celebrated by rolling a turkey and a scratch game of 181. Milan Gregovich came to the fore in the second game with a turkey and a 161 game. Avis Walker rolled 5 strikes in a row in the 3rd game and bowled the high game of the day with a 213.

On November 15th we had some persimmons to share so we gave one to each player that rolled a gutter ball. Most of the bowlers went home with one although more men than women got the prizes. In a lineup of John Walker, Don Snodgrass and Don Orton versus Avis Walker, Wynell Snodgrass and Wally Everette the women took the first game by +186 pins, the second by +130 pins and the third by +117 pins. The guys should have invited Allen Wesdorf to be on their team as he bowled high game of the day with a turkey and a 177. Don Snodgrass was the trick bowler of the day when he kept picking 1 pin out of the middle and leaving the rest standing. On Nov. 22 we had some guests from out of town when Paul and Sandy Frey, friends from Maryland came to join us as well as Tyson Pardee here from Nashville to visit his folks for Thanksgiving. While Janet Lococo rolled high first game with a 150, Allen Wesdorf rolled high second game with a

158 and Rachel Ireland rolled high third game with a 181 the guys got even with the girls and beat us by +221 pins in the third game.

We ended the month on the 29th with Pat Pardee taking high score for the first and second games and Allen Wesdorf rolled high score for the third game. Seeing as none of us had enough to eat on Thanksgiving we all went to lunch at Co-Co's.

If you haven't had a chance to come down and join us on Tuesday for bowling and lunch you are missing a lot of fun. Look for information and come join us for the Bowling/Pizza Party in January and you'll have a chance to see what you miss every Tuesday.
