President's Message:

by Dorothy Evans

Welcome to another year of good dancing, fun events and most importantly, great friends. But before we start thinking of the new year, we first need to look back on last year and give a great big thank you to Martha for all her hard work leading the club. For such a tiny lady, she sure is leaving mighty big shoes for me to fill.

Also looking back, thanks go to (in alpha order) Carl, Diana, Lisa and Tracy for a wonderful Christmas party. They may be fairly new to the club, but they definitely fit in when it comes to knowing how to have fun in Clutch Buster fashion!

This month on the 13th, we once again commence a new dancer class. Let's hope this year's class will be as successful as last year's. Thanks to Martha for taking on this responsibility; however, I know all of us will lend a hand in greeting and helping our students. A big thank you to Gary , too, for his efforts (and patience) in training these beginners.

We're all looking forward to the bowling/pizza party on January 23rd hosted by the Walkers and Gregovichs. Maybe this year I'll be able to last at least five minutes without that dreaded black lei around my neck! If you haven't already done so, please remember to pay Mary for the bowling and note your pizza choice on Avis' list.

Best wishes for a year filled with love, good health and peace for you and your family.

Yellowrocks,

Dorothy

New Dancer Class

by Martha Erwin

This Thursday, January 13, is our first Newer Dancer class.  The dancing is

advertised to start right at 7:30.  We are going to need to be ready to be

Angels for however many people might be coming to dance.  Could we plan

to arrive for dancing at 7:20?  That would be wonderful.

Traditionally we bring cookies for the first few weeks.  I'll bring a plate of

cookies, would someone like to volunteer to bring another plate?  Give me a

call, it is appreciated. )

Kim and Helen are bringing cookies this week. Thank you

Kim and Helen).

I'll bring a sign-up sheet for cookie volunteers to workshop on Thursday for

future classes.

See you all at 7:20 on Thursday.  Aren't you just curious to see who will be

knocking on our door?

Love Bug

Joe and Alfreda's wedding date has been set for March 19, 2004. We are not sure what the plans are or where the ceremony will be held, but since that is the CB's Jet Roberts hoedown, maybe Jet can marry them and ensure they will be in squares for ever after.

BOWLING/PIZZA PARTY

by Avis Walker

Sunday, January 23. 2005

Mary and Milan Gregovich and Avis and John Walker are hosting our annual Bowling/Pizza Party this year on Sunday January 23, 2005. We will meet at Diablo Lanes, 1500 Monument Blvd. , Concord .

Bowling starts at 1 p.m. so show up by 12:30 to check in with Mary and receive your lane assignments.

We will be bowling 2 games @ $3.75 per game ($7.50 per person). This amount is to be prepaid to Mary before the date of the bowling party.   See Mary and sign up soon so we will have an accurate head count and know how many lanes we will need.

If you need bowling shoes they will be an extra $2.50 per person payable at the desk. Be sure and tell them you are with The Clutch Buster group to get the $2.50 price. Any questions about this call Mary. Even if you don't want to bowl please come and join us.

There will be trophies for some and prizes for all and lots and lots of fun and laughter.

Pizza eating and awards will follow at the Round Table Pizza Parlor, 85 Chilpancingo Pkwy. beside K Mart in Pleasant Hill . We have a reservation there for 3:30 p.m.

Avis has a menu (with tax added) and will be signing up those who wish to order pizza.

Please pay for your pizza order ahead of time as I need a head count to work the best deal with the pizza parlor. I will turn in our pizza order the day before our party and they will have your order pre-prepped and ready for the oven.   However, you will still have to stand in line to let them know you are there and to order and pay for any drinks or salad bar you wish to have. John Walker will be near the line in case you need help remembering what you ordered.

Please bring your patience with you as the pizza parlor tries really hard to accommodate our group and 40 or so people descending at one time is just time consuming.   We have organized it as well as we can to move things along. We hope you will all be free to join the fun.   Any questions call Avis and John.

CB Hoedowns Are Coming Up Fast

The Clutch Busters will host their first Hoedown of the year on Friday March 11 at the Oak Park Center . The one and only Gary Kendall will be calling this gala new dancer event and it promises to be an exciting evening.

A week later, on Saturday, March 19 we will all be flying around our squares to the calling of Jet Roberts with round dance cuing by George Gardner. Jet is from the Sacrament area but is a nationally renowned caller and puts on a great night of square dancing.

CBers are ask to bring a door prize to each hoedown, something new and wrapped. Something that you might like to receive as a door prize. Food and work assignments will be out soon.

Club Calendar

With the amount of business that needed to be conducted at our last General Meeting and the time constraints placed upon us by the dance facility the club was not able to complete and accept the 2005 events calendar. This information will be in your next issue of the Record.

But...

...We Will Have A Car Rally and a

Garage Sale this year.

Don and Lois Lollich have asked if they could be allowed to host a car rally this March and how could we refuse? So clean your glasses (or get new ones) to look for the clues and get set for another grand day in the country side followed by a wonderful dinner you don't have to cook. So just go straight through 4 stop lights and try to remember when is a road really a road.

Jack Giolitti offered to once again hold our annual garage sale at his home "unless someone else wants to do it." This fun get-together and fund raiser will be in April.

Lots more details to follow in coming issues of your Record.

A Chiming Development

by Martha Erwin

We have enjoyed playing the chimes at our Club Christmas party for several years now.   But to do so we have had to borrow chimes from here and there every year.   This year Tracy & Lisa Woodard made a set and donated them to the club. Thank you, Tracy & Lisa.   Now we can chime away on our own chimes.

Money Laundering Puzzle Solved

Ed note: Last month it was revealed a member of our club may have passed laundered money, a club member known only as W.S. Here is the rest of the story.

The purse of the lady involved in money laundering sat on the washing machine. With or without her intention the purse ended up with the regular laundry in the washing machine, went through the whole cycle and was \only then retrieved. Details on which cycle the money was laundered have not been disclosed by said lady. If on hot with Clorox etc. or with the colored wash.

We still must refrain from disclosing her full name due to her young looks and status in the bowling circles.

News From the Alley

by Avis Walker

On Dec. 7th when we got the recap of the November 30th results we found that Janet Lococo has taken a clean sweep of all the categories for the women. Great bowling Janet!!   On the 7th she tried to get a repeat but while she beat husband Tom 2 out of 3 games and Wynell Snodgrass beat husband Don by 2 pins total for the day; Avis Walker managed to beat husband John 2 out of 3 and total pins and to take the ladies, league, high game and high series for the day. It was interesting that Tom Lococo and John Walker tied in the first game, Janet Lococo and Avis Walker tied in the second game and Tom Lococo and Avis Walker tied in the third game.

On December 14th, which was a NO TAP Tuesday, John Walker and Wynell Snodgrass tied in the first game at 126. Others had better luck with this special strike day.   Bob Erwin started off with a REAL turkey and had a 186 game.   Allen Wesdorf started out with a mixed up turkey (Part REAL strikes and part NO TAP) and bagged a 215 game. Avis Walker started off with 4 in a row and took high game with a 226.   In the second game Ken Wygal started out well and had 4 in a row and ended up with a 175.   Allen Wesdorf started out with a mixed up 5 in a row and had a 205. Rachel Ireland rolled a very nice 224 and Avis Walker had a 4 in a row, a split, and another 4 in a row for a very nice 227 high game of the day.   In the 3rd game John Walker got it together and turkeyed out for the high game of 212 followed by a tie between Allen Wesdorf and Tom Lococo at 207 and Avis at 196. The next week we found out that these great scores had earned Allen Wesdorf and Avis Walker first place money of $8.00 each and Tom Lococo men's 3rd place and Bob Erwin men's 5th place. So our group walked away with $24.00 in prize money. Good showing gang!!

On December 21st we tried to embarrass Carl Lorentzen when we sang   "Happy Birthday" and presented him with our traditional bowling alley doughnut hole with a candle. Diana L. was off work for a little vacation and she and Carl came on down to join us. We also had the pleasure of the company of the Walker 's eldest daughter, Cindy and Granddaughter Kaila who bowled on an adjacent lane. Kaila was a very happy 10-year-old when she rolled a 90 and 94. Janet Lococo took the first game with a 159 followed closely by Don Orton with a 156. John Walker picked up a 3-5-8-10 split but Don Snodgrass still got one more pin then John for a 142.   Wynell had a very good day. She rolled a 108, a 125 and a 106. In the 2nd game both Tom Lococo and Avis had turkeys.   Tom rolled a 159 game tying with Pat Pardee and Avis took high game with a 177. In the 3rd game Rachel Ireland came to the fore with high game of the day of 201. Carl and Diana both had pretty good days until in the last game Carl was the only one to get a spread eagle when his shoe stuck and he stepped forward to gain his balance and stepped out into the oiled alley. Unfortunately he managed to spread himself over most of two lanes. What a way to celebrate your birthday! Fortunately he was not badly injured although I understand he made a trip to the chiropractor and then to the hot tub. He was able to join us for lunch at J.J. North's where we again tried to embarrass him with a piece of cheese cake and candle and "Happy Birthday" sang in a packed restaurant.   Thanks for being

a good sport Carl. I must say that it is very difficult to embarrass Carl.   He takes everything in stride but I'll keep trying!! He's the 4th person in our group this year to take a fall. "Hey you people, cut it out, bowling is not supposed to be a dangerous sport you know."

On December 28th I tried to celebrate Pat Pardee's birthday only to have her tell me I had the wrong date and her birthday isn't until February 1st. Then I realized what I had seen on my calendar was her SURPRISE birthday party her kids were planning on December 30th while their brother was here from Nashville . I had to do some fast-talking to keep from giving away the surprise but I think I succeeded. Especially since I had Pat and Ray's birthdays switched last year. Oh well, when you try to do nice things sometimes you goof!! On this Tuesday we had the pleasure of Martha Erwin's company as well as Ray Pardee, who manages to join us occasionally. Our granddaughter Kaila was with us once again as well as Ruth Malnick's daughter, granddaughter, and their 2 foreign exchange students. Wynell had another very good bowling day and she finished out the year with a 110, 117 and a 119 for a 347 series. Since she has quit keeping those gutter so clean the rest of us have started doing our fair share. Milan had a good first game and beat Pat Pardee out by 1 pin with a 167.   In the 2nd game John Walker came to the fore and rolled a turkey for a 201 top score of the day. Ray Pardee took the 3rd game with a 182 and Ken Wygal struggled with 6 splits in a row.   We ended our year for the bowling/lunch bunch by having 18 of us show up at the Sizzler for lunch. It was a great way to end a year of good companionship and fun. Happy New Year to all and come see us at the alley some Tuesday .

Clutch Buster Christmas

The Clutch Buster Christmas Party was a true regalement. Members of the Diablo Singles and Doubles joined us in this event hosted by Carl and Diana Lorentzen and Tracy and Lisa Woodard.

The stage decorations were lavish featuring candy laden trees and a candy cane garden and other decorations the hosts crafted. Carl gave us a humorous rendition of an office Christmas Memo, Martha Erwin brought her key board and provided music to caroling and of course we sang the traditional 12 Days of Christmas using the wonderful posters painted by Milan Gregovich, with a gaggle of CBers gathered around each poster trying to out sing the other 11 groups.

We danced as Gary called to Christmas music, we ate, we partied, we had a great time.

Thanks to all who came to share the evening and especially to those who so generously donated food and money for the Contra Costa Food Bank.

And special thanks to the Woodards and the Lorentzens for all their hard work and for a fun party.

Top Ten Caller Anniversary Dance

Twelve CBers attended the N.C.S.D.A. Anniversary Dance at the Clock Tower in Benicia on January 9th. Where else could you dance to the top ten rated callers in our area all afternoon for only $3.50?

Our very own Gary Kendall was the MC of this packed event and he called a tip as well. The other callers were Bert Swerer, Dick Henschel, Eric Henerlau, Yodeling Mike Amell, Jim Osborne, Lawrence Johnstone, Joel Kadish, Scot Byars and Mike Wright.

Dancing at the Clock Tower is quite a treat. It is an old stone building located at the south end of Benicia right by the Benicia Bridge with a wonderful view of the Carquinez Straits. Dancing takes place on the second story of the building in a large room with old hardwood floors, very easy on the dancing feet.

Erna Beutel found a terrific partner to dance with, the father of caller Lawrence Johnstone, a former caller in his own right. Others of our group were Bob and Martha Erwin, John and Dorothy Evans, Bob and Chris Kratz, Tim Moon, John and Avis Walker and Tracy and Lisa Woodard. The dance was a lot of fun, as it always is and everyone saw a lot of dancers who attend our hoedowns and other common events. Everyone had a fantastic time and several CBers stayed for the delicious Buffet Dinner that followed the dance.

Maggie Arcaya from the Diablo Singles was there in a wheelchair keeping company with April Kendall who sported a sling from recent shoulder surgery. Maggie broke her ankle in an auto accident during her recent visit to Florida . Both appear to be on the mend and will be back in action soon.

Madeline Update

Madeline thoroughly enjoyed her Christmas and her Little Madeline Song. Thank you Martha Erwin for the music. Her favorite present turned out to be her toes which she recently discovered and she finds them to be very amusing.

Guess what? Tim Moon has joined the computer generation. Tim now has e-mail and is getting the hang of making it work. You can e-mail Tim at charlestimmoon@juno.com.
